Nobirukai Presents: Volunteer/Job Training Program
funded byAsian Pacific fund (APF.)

What is often the exciting start of a new job or volunteer position for an American is often less exciting for Japanese newcomers. Cultural disadvantages often play a large part in the difficulties that you face.

Nobiru-kai's years of experience in assisting Japanese newcomers's cultural adjustment is crystallized in a seven-week, Japanese-language Saturday program, with funding from the Asian Pacific Fund. This program will train new volunteers and job hunters in the skills that can help them to pursue the American Dream.

For Japanese, not everything is different than for Americans. However, communication skills, approaches to the career and to office politics can be very different. We have identified some key elements to help Japanese newcomers to systematically understand the difficulties and challenges they face, as well as to make positive changes.

Each Saturday, we invite a specialist or experienced guest speaker to share his or her intimate understanding of the theme. Co-facilitators will be college students in the Bay Area, Takayoshi Ooyama and Hiroko Hayashi.

The first meeting is Saturday October 26th. The first three meetings will take up different themes in helping you find a volunteer position or a job in America. The following three meetings will offer practical understanding and skills that you can use to better survive your workplace in a volunteer or paid position. The final Saturday is a don't-miss grand finale. Please come and learn about making your life better in America.
